Lyulin
2024
Lyulin, a peripheral district of Sofia, carries traces of a turbulent history in its streets, buildings, and courtyards. Built in the 1970s, it was once a symbol of progress and the visions of the government at the time. Distinctive panel buildings still shape the image of the neighborhood today. The playgrounds still bear traces of the Soviet past. In this work, this historical connection becomes visible and is simultaneously placed in a dialogue with the present time. While Lyulin is for some a livable place with a strong community, it is perceived from the outside as anonymous and isolated. Despite the negative perception from outside, Lyulin remains a vibrant district where the past and present are intertwined in an interesting way.
